Root Nexus 7 - Unlock Bootloader, Flash ClockWorkMod recovery and gain root access

Google Nexus 7 is just launched 2 days ago and developers have already rooted it. Rootzwiki forum member birdman and friends have released custom CWM recovery and rooting package for Nexus 7 Tablet. We have already told you that Nexus 7 is not available in the market and will start shipping by 2nd week of July. There are already millions of pre-order and it would take time to get Nexus 7 in the open the market. We are providing here detailed guide that will help you in rooting your Nexus 7 easily. This is a very easy to follow procedure. You just need to break into bootloader on Fastboot Android SDK and then install CWM recovery. You can then flash the rooting package via CWM recovery.

Alert/Warning: Tips4Droid or developer are not responsible for any issues caused by follow the below mentioned tools and procedure. This procedure is fully tested and confirmed before posting. Rooting voids warranty, so proceed at your own risk.

we will suggest you to create a Backup of all your data before rooting.

How to unlock Nexus 7 Bootloader:

Step 1: Download Android SDK and Install it on your PC. If you want a detail guide on installing SDK then proceed here.

Step 2: Enable USB Debugging from settings>Developer Options. and check the USB debugging box.

Step 3: Now, Connect Nexus 7 Tablet to PC using the Micro USB cable. Browse to the fastboot folder inside the location where Android SDK is installed it will be on the Windows drive[C:/]. Once you are in the folder press Shift and right click on the empty space of folder to bring up a context menu that will have the option "Open Command Window here".

Step 4: Enter the following command in the command Window.

fastboot oem unlock

once the flashing is complete proceed by executing below mentioned command

fastboot reboot

Step 5: Download and place the recovery created by developer in the fastboot folder. Download recovery.img here.

Once you download and copy recovery.img to fastboot folder execute below mentioned command:[if you have changed the name of recovery file replace it]

fastboot flash recovery CWM-grouper-recovery.img

Step 6: Reboot by entering following command:

Fastboot reboot

Now, to make custom recovery permanent [avoid losing access to CWM recovery], enter following command in terminal.

mount system
adb shell
cd /system
mv recovery-from-boot.p recovery-from-boot.bak

As per the leaked page there will be 2 models available with different storage sizes. The 8GB Model will cost around $199 and 16GB will be available for $249. The package will bundle a copy of Transformer Dark on Moon and $25 play store credit to purchase games and apps.

Nexus 7 is going to leave its mark because it will be a great competitor against the most feature rich and budget tablets as well. Kindle Fire has already been threatened and they are selling Kindle Fire at much lower rate beside that they are also working on Kindle Fire 2. The main features that threatened every tablet up was Google latest Android OS Jellybean. Jellybean is now packed with latest Android features and it is optimized be low on battery and perform better on Quad core hardware. Beside that it will feature its own UI and Voice support.
